Are you an e-Scip contributor?

It couldn’t be any easier to support the ministries of Bethany than signing up with e-scrip and shopping at the local merchants who donate back a percentage of your purchase to your church. Check the table in back for info! www.escrip.com

The Bethany Community Makes Commitments to Peace and Justice

On Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration at Bethany, worshipers were invited to make a personal commitment to Peace and Justice during the coming year.

Here are some of the ways in wich the people at Bethany contribute and work for Peace and Justice:

  • I work for "Justice in this country and around the world by supporting Souther Poverty Law Center, Amnesty International and the Human Rights Foundation."
  • I will "work with Rev. Brenda Vaca and Nueva Vida, Spanish-speaking ministries in San Francisco."
  • I'll "work for peace in my home."
  • I commit to work on "homelessness and hunger issues."
  • I will "sing more peace songs."
  • I will "work for peace and justice in whatever way I can."
  • I will "attend General Conference and do political work in the church for justice."
  • "Let there be peace with me and then I can ofer myself to help bring peace where ever I can."
  • I will "do more this year with Volunteer Connection, I will "revere the earth; use less energy.' I will "give more support for AIDS orphans in Africa."

WE PRAY FOR PEACE AND JUSTICE IN OUR WORLD AND ASK CHRIST TO HELP US SEE AND DO ALL WE CAN TO BRING FORTH INTO OUR LIVES AND TO ALL GOD'S PEOPLE!

From La Casa de las Madres

January 16, 2008

Dear congregation of  Bethany United Methodist Church,

On behalf of the women and children of La casa de las Madres we would like to extend our sincerest appreciation for your kindness and unwavering generosity during our annual Adopt a Family Campaign. Your support and compasion enabled us to provide a bountiful holiday season to over 425 women, teens and children. Our heartfelt graditude can only be expressed through the words of a family that was touched by your kindness this holiday season.

"I  was so overwhelmed by your generosity and consider our family blessed. Your gift has helped our family get back on our feet and keep warm in these cold San Francisco winters. The children loved thrir gifts and could not wait to get back to their room to play with there toys. We are escaping an abusive relationship.  I took only what I could fit in suitcases and snuck out without my husband noticing. It made me cry to receive such generosity. Bless you.

Love, Emergency shelter resident (mom with 2 kids)

P.S. The children look so cute in their coats!"

We too, are overwhelmed by this years outpouring of support. Nearly 100 organizations, community groups, businesses, schools, families and individuals participated in directly touching the lives of those we serve. Our ability to create a community free from violence relies upon the support and dedication of the community it affects. With your help, we are making a difference. Again, thank you for your support and happy New Year!

Warmly,

Kathy Black, Executive Director

Lisa Polacci, Community Programs Director
